Amman: The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) processed approximately 62 metric tons of locally produced and imported gold and silver jewelry and bullion during the first half of 2026 as part of its inspection, hallmarking, and legal purity verification services.
According to Jordan News Agency, Acting Director General of JSMO, Wafaa Momani, stated that during the reporting period, the organization hallmarked 4,850 kilograms of locally manufactured gold jewelry and 1,750 kilograms of imported gold jewelry. JSMO also inspected 2,650 kilograms of gold bullion and 49,100 kilograms of silver bullion, with the total volume of silver jewelry processed reaching 3,450 kilograms.
Momani highlighted that the organization carried out 211 inspection visits to jewelry shops and workshops during the first half of the year. The use of portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzers during inspection campaigns has enhanced field oversight by allowing inspectors to instantly verify the legal purity of precious metals without collecting samples or damaging the inspected items, thus improving the efficiency of inspection operations.
Consumers planning to purchase gold jewelry are urged by Momani to ensure that each item carries the official JSMO hallmark. She advised them to request a detailed invoice showing the jeweler's name or official stamp, the date of sale, the type of jewelry, its legal purity, weight in grams, the daily gold price according to the Jordan Jewelers Association's official bulletin, manufacturing charges, and the total purchase price. Additionally, she encouraged consumers to report any violations through JSMO's hotline, official website, the government "Bekhedmetkom" platform, or the organization's social media channels.
