Amman: The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) and the Royal Engineering Corps of the Jordan Armed Forces have entered into an agreement to undertake the cleaning and dredging of the Shuaib Dam. This initiative aims to enhance the dam's storage capacity and improve water harvesting efficiency.
According to Jordan News Agency, the agreement was formalized by JVA Secretary-General Hisham Haisa and Brig. Gen. Ashraf Odat, Director of the Royal Engineering Corps. This collaboration is part of a broader national strategy to enhance water resources and implement projects that serve the public.
Haisa emphasized the significance of expanding water harvesting and improving storage efficiency, despite the financial challenges associated with sediment and silt removal. He highlighted ongoing efforts across various dams to clear sediment and waste, preserve the environment, and optimize water use for economic, tourism, and agricultural benefits, in coordination with the Armed Forces.
The agreement is set to last until September 7, 2026, during which time the planned quantities of silt and sediment will be removed, enhancing the dam's efficiency and improving water management practices.
Haisa noted that partnering with the Royal Engineering Corps represents a key development in nationwide dam cleaning and excavation efforts, which will contribute to environmental development, better living conditions, and the initiation of local agricultural and pastoral projects.
Brig. Gen. Odat expressed the Armed Forces' pride in contributing to this essential project and their commitment to applying their technical expertise to support national goals. He reaffirmed the ongoing cooperation with the JVA in serving the country's interests.
