Kanaan Stresses Jerusalem’s Central Role in International Agenda Amid Global Crises

Jerusalem: Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Secretary-General Abdullah Kanaan emphasized that the city of Jerusalem must remain a central issue on the international agenda, despite escalating regional and international conflicts.

According to Jordan News Agency, Kanaan highlighted in an interview that the Israeli occupation authority continuously seeks to bolster its settlement policies and imposes restrictions on Jerusalem, its people, and holy sites.

He noted that recent incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, led by extremist settlers and protected by Israeli police, have intensified amidst rising security tensions in the region. Kanaan stressed that the situation in Jerusalem is a strategic priority for the current far-right Israeli government. He called for international political and media action to expose and document violations, urging accountability under international law, which recognizes Jerusalem as an occupied city and calls for the cessation of settlement activities and attacks on holy sites.

Kanaan also mentioned the significance of the Israeli-Iranian conflict and the Russian-Ukrainian war, urging the international community not to overlook these issues. Meanwhile, he pointed out the ongoing plight of the Palestinian people, which includes killings, displacement, and massacres, continuing amid international silence and lack of serious intervention to halt the Israeli occupation. This situation, he warned, threatens regional and global peace and security.

Kanaan reaffirmed Jordan's commitment, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, to support the Palestinian people's steadfastness and legitimate rights, regardless of the challenges and sacrifices faced.
