Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II and Lebanese President Gen. Joseph Aoun held talks at Basman Palace, where they discussed ways to enhance ties between Jordan and Lebanon, as well as recent developments in the region. During their meeting, the leaders expressed their pride in the deep-rooted relations between the two countries and emphasized the importance of building on these ties to serve mutual interests and Arab causes.
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions included the importance of increasing trade exchange and promoting joint investments, particularly in the energy, electricity, and infrastructure sectors. King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan's support for Lebanon in its efforts to maintain security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The leaders also addressed regional developments, stressing the need to reinstate the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure humanitarian aid reaches all areas of the Strip. They reiterated their rejection of any plans to displace Palestinians and urged increased Arab and international efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. King Abdullah highlighted the danger of escalations and violence targeting Palestinians in the West Bank and holy sites in Jerusalem.
The talks also covered the need to maintain security and stability in Syria to facilitate the voluntary and safe return of refugees. President Aoun praised Jordan's support for Lebanon and emphasized the importance of strengthening security and defense cooperation, especially in combating terrorism and smuggling.
Both leaders stressed the importance of ongoing coordination and consultation on mutual concerns. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Minister of State for Prime Ministry Affairs Abdullah Odwan, Jordan's Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Al Hadid, and the Lebanese delegation. King Abdullah bid farewell to President Aoun at the conclusion of his visit.
