Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II and Sweden Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Tuesday discussed the long-standing relations between Jordan and Sweden, according to a royal court statement.
According to Jordan News Agency, during bilateral talks followed by expanded discussions, the two leaders emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, tourism, cyber security, counterterrorism, and defense. The talks also addressed recent regional developments, with a focus on the Palestinian cause. His Majesty highlighted the alignment of views between the two countries on key regional issues, stressing the importance of achieving just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution and the creation of a political horizon for establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The King expressed appreciation for Sweden's support in humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza and stressed the need to resume support for UNRWA in line with its UN mandate. He also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid to all areas of the Strip, aligning with a proposal by United States President Donald Trump.
His Majesty noted Jordan's ongoing coordination with active partners to achieve regional stability and acknowledged Sweden's significant role in supporting peace efforts within the European Union. He also expressed concern over Israeli escalations targeting Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem and reiterated Jordan's support for Syria and Lebanon's efforts to maintain security, stability, and territorial sovereignty.
Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson underscored the importance of the partnership with Jordan at both the bilateral level and within the frameworks of the European Union and NATO. He expressed Sweden's readiness to enhance cooperation with Jordan in various fields. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh.
