Brussels: His Majesty King Abdullah II's sixth plenary address to the European Parliament underscores the "centrality" of European institutions and their influential role in international political, economic, social, and security matters, stated Abdullah Kanaan, Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs (RCJA).
According to Jordan News Agency, the address placed a significant focus on Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian cause and the city of Jerusalem. Kanaan highlighted that the Royal speech comes at a challenging time globally, marked by escalating crises, conflicts, technological advancements, and innovations.
Kanaan emphasized Europe's renewed commitment to global security amidst the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the energy crisis, economic challenges, and refugee issues. He noted that His Majesty stressed the importance of the European position on the Palestinian issue, citing recent declarations by several European countries, including France, Britain, Spain, and Ireland, to officially recognize the Palestinian state. This diplomatic move is seen as bolstering support for the Palestinian cause.
Jordan, which holds the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, continues to advocate for peace, partnering with Europe and the global community to promote peace and reject hatred and extremism. Kanaan conveyed a message of peace, stability, and respect for religious freedom, reflecting Jordan's adherence to its religious and moral heritage.
The King's speech, along with Jordan's steadfast stance, supports the Palestinian people's rights to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
