Landline Subscriptions Drop to 485,000 in First Quarter of 2025

Amman: The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) released its statistical report for the first quarter of 2025, highlighting the activities within the Kingdom's telecom sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, the report revealed a decrease in landline subscriptions to approximately 485,000, down from around 494,000 in the same period of 2024, marking a 1.9% decline.

The report detailed that 67% of these landline subscriptions were attributed to the residential sector, while the remaining 33% were linked to the commercial sector. In terms of telephone traffic, fixed-line subscribers generated about 9.8 million call minutes during the first quarter, showing a slight increase from the 9.7 million minutes recorded in the same period of 2024, reflecting a 1% growth rate. Of these call minutes, 84% were for local landlines and 16% were for international networks.

The report also highlighted the growth in mobile broadband subscriptions, which reached 8.03 million, compared to 7.79 million in the first quarter of 2024, representing a 3% increase. Of these, 68% were prepaid services, while 32% were postpaid. Voice and data subscriptions made up 83% of the total, with data-only subscriptions accounting for the remaining 17%. Mobile voice traffic amounted to approximately 6.7 billion minutes, with 97% for domestic use and 3% for international communications.

Moreover, the number of text messages sent surged to around 423 million, a significant increase from 233 million in the first quarter of 2024, marking an 81.5% growth rate. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, the mobile phone subscription penetration rate was 68% of the total population, up from 67% in the same period of 2024. The penetration rate for the population over 15 years old stood at 105%.
