Amman: The Lower House of Representatives approved the 2026 General Budget Law by a majority vote during a session chaired by Speaker Mazen Qadi. The approval came after a series of debates that lasted approximately 25 hours over four days, during which 126 lawmakers participated in discussions.
According to Jordan News Agency, the voting session saw eighty-six lawmakers casting their votes in favor of the 2026 budget. The debates began on Monday with 25 MPs speaking for six hours, followed by a session on Tuesday where 32 lawmakers debated the budget for five hours. The deliberations continued on Wednesday with 41 deputies speaking for eight hours, and concluded today with 28 MPs discussing the budget for six hours.
Following the passage of the draft law, the Senate's Finance Committee will start its own review process. They will debate the 2026 budget and submit their recommendations to the Upper Chamber for approval. Once approved by the Upper Chamber, the budget will be ratified by Royal Decree and published in the Official Gazette.
The discussions in the House began last Monday after the Finance Committee presented its report on the draft law. The report was delivered by the committee's rapporteur, Mohammad Bustangi, following the committee's approval of the draft law on December 7, 2025. This approval came after the committee held 104 meetings over a span of 13 days.
Earlier, the House had referred the 2026 budget to its Finance Committee on November 11, 2025. The committee then engaged in discussions with various ministries, government units, and institutions to refine the budget draft.
