Amman: The Lower House on Tuesday continued a discussion of the policy statement of Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan before a vote of confidence. Taking the floor on the second day of the debate during a session chaired by Speaker Ahmad Safadi and attended by Hassan and his ministerial team, lawmakers aired the key demands of their constituencies, many focused on education and health services and infrastructure. According to Jordan News Agency, lawmakers called for real solutions to address economic woes facing citizens, emphasizing the need to tackle unemployment among graduates, support small- and medium-sized enterprises, align education with labor market demands, and boost investment in productive sectors such as agriculture, industry, and tourism. Additional demands included increases in public sector wages and benefits for retired civil employees and servicemen. Lawmaker Ahmed Sarahneh highlighted the need for the government to alleviate the burden of university tuition, advocating for free education as a right for every Jordanian. He criticized the reliance on increasing student loans as insufficient. Meanwhile, MP Rakin Abu Haniyeh urged for an "integrated" food security strategy supported by manufacturing industries and called for increased investment and market access. MP Aref Sa'aideh remarked on Jordan's "most critical" circumstances due to global economic pressures, urging a collective effort to address challenges, strengthen internal unity, and support national leadership. Sa'aideh also emphasized Jordan's capacity to champion Arab issues, particularly the Palestinian cause.
