Athens: Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi and Speaker of the Greek Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis have underscored the importance of enhancing Jordanian-Greek relations across various domains, particularly in parliamentary coordination. The meeting, which took place during Qadi's official visit to Greece at Kaklamanis's invitation, focused on fostering closer cooperation between the two nations.
According to Jordan News Agency, the talks highlighted the potential for improved collaboration that serves common interests and supports peace and stability in the region. Qadi emphasized the historical connections between Jordan and Greece and praised Athens for its support of the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites. He also acknowledged Greece's stance on the Palestinian issue, advocating for the rights of Palestinians through a two-state solution.
Qadi reiterated that Jordan, under King Abdullah II's leadership, remains committed to being a voice of moderation and a proponent of political resolutions to regional crises. Kaklamanis expressed Greece's interest in developing stronger ties with Jordan, particularly in economic and trade sectors, recognizing Jordan's vital role in enhancing regional security.
Kaklamanis affirmed Greece's support for Jordan through the European Union, emphasizing the need to maintain the historical and legal status of Jerusalem's holy sites. He conveyed the Greek Parliament's respect for the Hashemite custodianship and reiterated Greece's commitment to regional stability.
In a separate meeting with Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) Head Maximos Charakopoulos, Qadi highlighted Jordan's dedication to promoting peace and tolerance. He noted the Kingdom's focus on religious tourism, exemplified by King Abdullah's inauguration of the Baptism Site International Orthodox University. Charakopoulos praised Jordan as a model of peaceful coexistence in the Middle East and pledged support for enhancing Jordan's religious tourism efforts.
