Amman: Lower House Speaker Mazin Al-Qadi stated that Jordan's national unity and the vigilance of its security and military agencies have been critical in thwarting attempts to undermine the country's security and stability.
According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Qadi made these remarks during an appearance on Jordan Television's 60 Minutes program, where he discussed the Parliament's priorities, its relationship with the government, and the role of parliamentary committees. He highlighted that King Abdullah II's recent address serves as a roadmap for addressing regional challenges, including the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
Al-Qadi emphasized the separation of powers as defined by the Jordanian Constitution while advocating for a cooperative relationship between Parliament and the government. He stated that Parliament should act as the voice of the people and foster a partnership with the government for the nation's common good.
Addressing parliamentary performance, Al-Qadi noted that the first year of the current term was a learning stage, but he expects more robust performance in the second year. He also highlighted progress in political reform and party development, stressing the importance of national, program-based parties without external affiliations.
Responding to recent public debate, Al-Qadi clarified his earlier remarks about Jordanians aligning with the state, emphasizing national unity and shared responsibility. He assured that his military background and loyalty to the King guide his actions, not disrespect toward Jordanians.
Al-Qadi identified the National Service Law and the General Budget Law as top legislative priorities, with a focus on quality and urgency. He also mentioned upcoming discussions on the Local Administration Law to ensure effective municipal governance.
The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing Parliament's role and addressing citizens' concerns. He expressed pride in Jordan's media and emphasized open communication between Parliament and journalists as crucial for serving the nation.
