Amman: The Zarqa Governorate is set to improve its public transport network with the introduction of three new routes as part of the second phase of the regular inter-governorate transport project, following approval from the Cabinet.
According to Jordan News Agency, Obadeh Ezz El-Din Abu Qamar, Director of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) in Zarqa, stated that the project's first phase successfully operated four main routes linking Amman with Karak, Salt, Irbid, and Jerash. This success has led to the approval of the second phase, expanding the project to encompass nine new routes.
The new phase will see the operation of nine routes using 210 modern buses equipped with intelligent transport systems. This initiative is designed to enhance connectivity between governorates and provide more efficient and regular transportation services for citizens.
Abu Qamar revealed that the LTRC has signed an agreement to deploy 42 medium-sized buses on the Zarqa-Irbid route as part of this second phase. The aim is to improve the service levels and transportation efficiency between the two governorates.
The LTRC has completed purchasing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and work is ongoing to install them on the buses of the second phase. The systems include e-payment options and CCTV cameras, enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and service monitoring. Additionally, the buses will offer free wireless internet (Wi-Fi) service to improve the passenger experience.
