Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Mousa Maaytah, on Tuesday met with a number of representatives of local civil society institutions and study centers.

The meeting is part of a series of meetings recently launched by the government, with media figures, representatives of civil society institutions, and institutions concerned with youth and women’s affairs, to discuss the outcomes and recommendations of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System.

Maaytah said that the government adhered to the royal directive to reflect the outcomes and recommendations of the committee related to the legislative aspect to the Lower House of Parliament, as it began discussing them through the legal committee and will send them to the Parliament before the start of the next regular session, which will start in November 15.

He pointed out that the government will, in the coming period, finalize an executive plan to work on implementing the recommendations of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System related to the empowerment of women and youth and the development of the local administration legislation system, in addition to the draft legislation related to the electoral and political party bills and the constitutional amendments legally related to them.

The Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs stressed the importance of the civil society institutions’ role in raising awareness and educating young people through their programs and activities that extend in all governorates, in order to change the prevailing stereotype about engaging in partisan work, respecting intellectual diversity within society and accepting the other opinion.

A number of representatives of local civil society institutions and study centers commended the outcomes and recommendations of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, considering that the presence of two parties in the upcoming parliament is an important step.

They underlined the importance of implementing the outcomes and recommendations of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System on the ground, adding that they look forward to partner and cooperate with the government in implementing the committee’s outcomes and recommendations.
