Malaysia’s 100-Year-Old Former Premier Mahathir Hospitalized for Hip Fracture

Kuala lumpur: Veteran Malaysian statesman and former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has been hospitalized for a hip fracture, his aide said on Tuesday. Mahathir, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, experienced a fall at his residence early Tuesday morning, leading to the injury.

According to Anadolu Agency - English, after a medical assessment, it was confirmed that Mahathir suffered a fracture to his right hip. His aide, Sufi Yusoff, stated that Mahathir is expected to be admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur for several weeks for treatment and observation.

Mahathir's fall occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. (0330GMT), and he was transferred to the hospital around 9:30 a.m. (0530GMT). The former prime minister has a history of medical procedures, including heart bypass surgeries, and was previously admitted to IJN last July after experiencing fatigue during a picnic in Putrajaya.
