Mikati: 100 Lebanese killed in Israeli “war of genocide”

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said Monday that 100 people were killed in ongoing Israeli strikes in Southern Lebanon in "a war of genocide" against his country. In a regular meeting of his government, Mikati appealed to the United Nations Security Council and influential nations to "deter the aggression on Lebanese lands," reiterating Beirut's commitment to UN Resolution 1701. He referred to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' remarks expressing fears of turning south Lebanon into "another Gaza" and demanding an end to the war, saying these should galvanize the international community to pressure Israel to halt the aggression. Meanwhile, the Lebanese Health Ministry said the initial death toll from Israeli raids on Lebanon topped 100 and more than 400 were wounded, including children, women and medical aid workers.
