Aqaba: Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Saud conducted a field visit to Aqaba Governorate on Thursday to inspect the intake of the new National Water Carrier Project. The project is part of the government's strategic efforts to reduce costs and expedite implementation of one of Jordan's key national projects, supporting the Economic Modernization Plan and aiming to provide and desalinate 300 million cubic meters of seawater annually from the Gulf of Aqaba.
According to Jordan News Agency, during the visit, Abu Saud reviewed non-destructive testing (NDT) work for the proposed desalination plant and discussed the results with the contractor. The minister also held coordination meetings with the Aqaba Thermal Power Station and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority to address pending issues and accelerate project timelines.
Abu Saud stressed that the Ministry of Water and Irrigation is committed to ensuring the project's implementation begins according to schedule, highlighting its significance in securing additional water resources and advancing national development goals.
