The Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment Friday held the national conference “Women’s Paths in Visions of Modernisation” in cooperation with the UN In Jordan and the Institute for Politics and Society.

The conference, under the patronage of the Chairwoman of the Jordanian National Committee for Women’s Affairs Princess Basma Bint Talal, is part of the government’s efforts to push forward the political and economic reforms.

The Secretary-General of the Jordanian National Committee for Women’s Affairs, Maha Ali, delivered a speech in which she stressed the importance of holding this conference at an important stage of reform and development in Jordan’s march within the paths of political, economic and public sector reform.

Ali said that the Committee looks forward to implementing the national strategy for women in Jordan 2020-2025, in an holistic and participatory approach with the government, the private sector, civil society institutions and other stakeholders and in an integrated manner to carry out the reform.

She said that despite many achievements in terms of legislation and programmes directed at empowering women, there are still many challenges to address to empower women, including increasing their economic contribution, enhancing their political participation and increasing their access to decision-making positions.

The Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, stressed the importance of building on national efforts to empower women in cooperation with national institutions and CSOs.

Bani Mustafa said that Jordan has made “great” achievements and noted that she hopes for more achievements in the future.
