Ministers Makary, Corm & Boushkian call for revisiting recent cabinet decision allowing Syrian students to register in Lebanon

Caretaker Ministers of Information, Tele-Communications and Industry, Ziad Makary, Johnny Corm and George Boushkian, issued the following statement on Sunday: 'We hope that the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers will re-include on its agenda the clause allowing Syrians who do not have a residency permit or an identification card from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to register in Lebanon for the 2024-2025 academic year, in order to re-study it carefully since it was approved from outside the agenda of the last session and was not fully assessed." "Given the sensitivity of the file, and to avoid using it as fuel in political battles, we call on all parties to approach it from a national and humanitarian perspective, far from political and populist bazaars," the statement added. While expressing their surprise at the sudden criticizing stances in this respect, the caretaker cabinet ministers hoped that such criticism would instead be directed at the organizations and associatio ns that lavish money on Syrian refugees, encouraging them to stay in Lebanon.
