Amman: The Unified Admission Coordination Unit at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced a new requirement for students with disabilities seeking admission to Jordanian universities. In compliance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Law No. 20 of 2017, these students must now obtain an official disability identification card issued by the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) to compete for seats allocated under the general admission policy.

According to Jordan News Agency, this requirement extends to students aiming for exemptions under the general transfer (bridging) policy and those looking to benefit from the tuition fee discounts provided by law, regardless of whether they are enrolled in regular or parallel programs. The application process for the identification card involves submitting requests via the government services section of the Sanad application, selecting the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and proceeding to the Identification Card Unit. Applicants must also visit one of the council's liaison offices to receive priority for the necessary assessment.

The unit emphasized that students will not be recognized as persons with disabilities for admission purposes without the official identification card from the HCD. Designated liaison offices for priority processing include the Northern Region Office, located east of the New Amman Bus Terminal behind Halim Sweets, the Southern Region Office in Al-Thaniyah, Karak, and the Identification Card and Services Unit in Arjan at the Prince Raad bin Zeid Complex on Sports College Street.
