MoU Signed to Implement Sustainable Technical Management System in Wastewater Plants

Amman: The Water Authority of Jordan, along with Miyahuna, Aqaba Water, and Yarmouk Water companies, signed a memorandum of understanding to apply the Technical Sustainable Management System (TSM Jordan) in wastewater treatment plants across the Kingdom.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation announced that the agreement is part of national efforts to improve the operation and maintenance efficiency of treatment plants. The initiative aims to ensure compliance with technical and environmental standards while enhancing institutional capacity through training, certification, and specialized technical inspections.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the Water Authority will organize regular training programs to qualify certified technical inspectors and accredit plants that meet the system's requirements. The water companies involved will provide the necessary technical support to implement and expand the system in the future.

Water Authority Secretary-General Sufian Batayneh highlighted during the signing ceremony, which was attended by representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and company directors, that the TSM system contributes directly to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on water and sanitation. He emphasized that the MoU represents a significant step forward in managing and operating wastewater treatment plants, thereby strengthening technical governance and transparency in this vital sector.
