MP Atieh Secures First Deputy Speaker Role in Lower House Vote

Amman: MP Khamis Atieh has been elected as the First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, securing 67 votes against his competitor, MP Ayatollah Freihat, who received 55 votes. The election process also saw 14 ballot papers deemed invalid or left blank.

According to Jordan News Agency, the voting took place during a House session presided over by Speaker Mazen Qadi. The session was attended by 136 voters, with two representatives absent due to excused reasons.

The evening session commenced with the House's agreement to establish a committee tasked with electing its Permanent Bureau. This Bureau includes the House Speaker, along with the first and second deputies and their assistants.

The election committee was chaired by MP Nimer Sleihat, with Moataz Abu Rumman and Haitham Ziyadin serving as members.
