Amman: Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah has refuted circulating reports claiming that the ministry decided to “reinstate” music and theater classes in public schools, emphasizing that these subjects have consistently been part of the national curriculum.
According to Jordan News Agency, Mahafzah clarified in a statement that music, art, and theater have been integrated into educational frameworks for decades and continue to be an essential part of the school system. The minister’s remarks addressed social media speculation that tied a recent visit by a delegation from the Jordanian Artists Syndicate to a supposed policy change in arts education.
Mahafzah explained that the meeting with the syndicate was aimed at enhancing existing cooperation and coordination on educational matters rather than reintroducing classes that were never removed. “This link is inaccurate and is not based on correct information,” Mahafzah stated, expressing surprise at the reports’ wording. He further noted that such rumors overlook the ministry’s efforts in sustaining and advancing these subjects as a lasting element of the Jordanian educational framework.
