Amman: Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nancy Namrouqa, praised the efforts of Jordanian female diplomats on the occasion of the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, celebrated annually on June 24.
According to Jordan News Agency, Namrouqa acknowledged the significant contributions of these diplomats in representing Jordan and advancing its interests on the international stage. She emphasized their involvement in key embassies and missions abroad, as well as their roles in United Nations and other international organizations. Some of these diplomats also hold senior positions within the ministry.
Namrouqa underscored the pivotal role of female diplomats in serving Jordanian citizens and enhancing the quality of services provided both domestically and internationally. She attributed their competence and effectiveness to the foundation of Jordanian diplomacy laid by His Majesty King Abdullah II, which aims to bolster the country's international standing and protect its interests globally.
Reflecting on the history of women in Jordan's diplomatic corps, Namrouqa highlighted the achievements of Loris Hallas, the first Jordanian female diplomat in 1969 and the first to earn the title of Ambassador. This milestone marked the beginning of a long tradition of empowering women in Jordanian diplomatic work.
The ministry, Namrouqa noted, takes pride in having 62 Jordanian female diplomats serving in missions abroad and at the ministry's headquarters. This group includes nine ambassadors, eleven ministers plenipotentiary, seven advisors, and 35 others in various diplomatic roles.
