National Exports Surge 6% Amid Regional Tensions and Supply Chain Challenges

Amman:The national exports of Jordan increased by 6 percent during the first eight months of 2026, reaching JD6.464 billion, compared to JD6.098 billion in the same period last year. This growth occurred despite regional tensions and disruptions to trade and supply chains, as the country's industrial sector continued to expand.

According to Jordan News Agency, the rise in exports was bolstered by significant gains in several major industrial products. Knitted apparel and related goods rose by 4.6 percent, nitrogenous and chemical fertilizers by 16.4 percent, pharmaceutical products by 1.8 percent, and crude potash by 12.3 percent. Exports to key international markets also showed notable increases, with a 28.9 percent rise to Syria, 74.3 percent to China, and an 11.4 percent increase to the European Union.

Industry leaders highlighted the resilience and adaptability of Jordanian manufacturers in maintaining their presence in overseas markets and expanding their export destinations. Fathi Jaghbir, President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, emphasized the sector's ability to manage disruptions while sustaining operations. He called for continued diversification of export markets and products to mitigate reliance on individual destinations.

Senator Ahmad Khodari, President of the Jordan Exporters Association, noted that the figures demonstrate the strength of Jordan's industrial sector and its ability to compete internationally despite regional uncertainties. He attributed part of this resilience to Jordan's security and stability, which have enabled businesses to maintain production and export operations. Khodari also emphasized the importance of expanding into new markets to diversify customer bases and reduce reliance on traditional export destinations.

Both Jaghbir and Khodari stressed the need for ongoing investment in manufacturing capabilities, international marketing efforts, and diversification of export destinations to support Jordan's position in global markets. The Jordan Exporters Association is preparing new initiatives to strengthen access to promising markets, including China, Russia, and African countries, with plans to organize a trade exhibition in Kenya.
