Amman: A total of 6,758 cyber incidents targeted Jordan's cyberspace last year, marking a 175% increase compared to 2023, the National Cybersecurity Center (NCC) announced. The NCC attributed the increase to the expansion of monitoring operations on government networks and devices, which contributed to a higher detection rate. The NCC's monitoring team successfully detected 97% of all cases.
According to Jordan News Agency, in its 2024 annual report released Thursday, the NCC reported that 6,922 cyber warnings were issued for the monitored incidents, compared to 2,609 alerts in 2023. The NCC-affiliated Jordan Computer Emergency Response Team (JoCERT) handled 3% of the incidents and issued 75 technical reports for this purpose. The report indicated that the rate of incidents labeled as "critical" amounted to 2% of the total recorded incidents, while 88% were "medium risk" and 10% were "low risk."
The report also showed no "high-severity" incidents were recorded in 2024, compared to 1% in 2023. Some incidents aimed at carrying out espionage and information hacking operations, while others involved malware and viruses, the report showed. Additionally, the center's teams successfully discovered 7,846 security vulnerabilities through security scans, including websites and servers providing critical services, as well as others within the e-Government Operations Center and external projects.
