NCHR Launches 22nd Human Rights Report Addressing Key Issues in Jordan

Aqaba:The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) held an event in Aqaba to launch and discuss its 22nd annual report on the state of human rights in Jordan for the year 2025. The event aimed to enhance communication with local communities and promote discussions on human rights priorities across Jordan's governorates. According to Jordan News Agency, the event was attended by representatives from official and local institutions, civil society organizations, youth groups, universities, and media outlets. It featured a presentation on the report's methodology, findings, indicators, and recommendations, assessing the human rights situation in Jordan through field monitoring, complaints follow-up, and analysis of legislation and public policies. The report covers a broad spectrum of rights, including civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, as well as the rights of vulnerable groups. It also addresses emerging issues such as digital rights, artificial intelligence, and climate change-related en vironmental concerns. Samar Al-Hajj Hassan, Chairperson of the Centre's Board of Trustees, stated that the Centre's reports provide a national assessment of the human rights situation, highlighting both progress and challenges, and offering actionable recommendations. Commissioner-General for Human Rights Jamal Al-Shamayleh emphasized the need for integrated policies supported by clear performance indicators and improved coordination between legislation and implementation. Nael Al-Kabariti, a Council member, noted that the report could assist in translating monitoring findings into practical public policy inputs by identifying gaps and shortcomings. He stressed the importance of the report's recommendations in legislative review and program prioritization. The event included discussions on issues pertinent to the southern region and stressed the importance of including local experiences in the national dialogue on human rights. The report documented the Centre's field monitoring activities in the southern region, including visits to detention and rehabilitation centers in Aqaba and Ma'an, identifying positive aspects and areas needing improvement.
