Nine Industrial Sectors in Jordan Record Production Growth Over Eight Months

Amman: Nine out of ten industrial sectors in Jordan experienced production growth from January to August, indicating continued positive activity in the national industrial sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, the construction industry led with a growth rate of 5.5%, spurred by increased domestic demand for building materials and infrastructure projects.

The packaging sector followed with a growth rate of 4.1%, and the engineering industries sector grew by 3.8%. However, the plastics and rubber industries sector saw a decline of 3.5%, impacted by rising raw material costs and slowed demand in certain regional markets.

The quarrying sector showed significant growth at 28%, the mineral products industry at 26%, and the pesticide and agrochemical products industry at 39%. The pharmaceutical, medical, and medicinal plant products industry grew by approximately 3%.

Production in the pulp, paperboard, and cardboard industry rose by 10%, and the footwear industry by 2%. The basic iron and steel industry experienced a growth of 37%, while the electrical motors, generators, and transformers industry increased by 2%.

JCI indicated that this performance reflects the resilience of the Jordanian industrial sector and its adaptability to regional and global economic challenges, including rising energy prices and transportation costs. The chamber added that growth in most sectors demonstrates the success of Jordanian factories in enhancing production efficiency and adopting technological solutions to reduce costs and improve product quality.

If the current growth trend persists, the industrial production index is expected to grow by approximately 3.2% by year-end, signaling stable industrial activity and increased demand for Jordanian products domestically and abroad. JCI emphasized the industrial sector's role as a key economic driver, providing jobs and promoting national exports.

The chamber highlighted the industrial production index's positive results as a realistic outcome of Jordanian factories' efforts to expand operational capacities and market presence. Looking ahead, JCI urged the continuation of support for the industrial investment environment to enhance the competitiveness of national products and sustain industrial growth.
