October Sees Uptick in Rumors with 95 Reported Across Media Platforms.

In October:n October, the Jordanian Media Credibility Monitor "Akeed" documented 95 rumors that were circulated among the public via social media and local or international media. According to Jordan News Agency, In its monthly report released on Saturday, Akeed noted an increase in the number of rumors refuted, rising by three to a total of 20 out of 95, up from 17 in September. The report highlighted the prominence of security-related rumors, particularly those pertaining to the conflict in Gaza and southern Lebanon, which accounted for 20 out of the 27 security rumors, making this category the most prevalent at 28.4 percent. Social rumors ranked third with 21 instances, constituting 22 percent and primarily addressing labor, workers, and education issues, as well as societal disputes. Economic rumors followed in fourth place with 15 instances, representing 16 percent. Akeed's analysis categorized the rumors by field, revealing that security rumors topped the list in October, followed by political rumor s with 26 instances, making up 27.4 percent. Social rumors came third, economic rumors fourth, public affairs rumors fifth at 5.2 percent, and health rumors last with just one instance, accounting for 1 percent. The origins of these rumors were also scrutinized, with Akeed finding that 72 rumors, or 76 percent, originated from internal sources such as news websites or social media, while 23 rumors stemmed from external sources, making up 24 percent. The data further showed that social media was responsible for spreading 84 rumors, or 88 percent, whereas media outlets initiated 11 rumors, or 12 percent.
