Amman: The Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union (EU) Monday held a panel discussion on drafting the health sector’s financing strategy and results of the national health accounts (NHA) team for the years 2018-2019.

Jordan’s health spending in 2019 was JD2.2 billion, accounting for 7.1 percent of the gross domestic product, said Secretary-General of the Ministry for Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases Raed Shboul, adding that the per capita share was JD212.

He commended the efforts of the team of NHA, which is a systematic, comprehensive and consistent monitoring tool of resource flows in a country’s health system.

The ministry, the EU and the WHO are currently working on a health financing strategy to provide affordable health services for the public, he added.

WHO representative in Jordan Jamela Al-Raiby said the NHA outcomes will play a key part in drawing up the financing health strategy.
