The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has warned of the gravity of attempts by Israel, the occupying power, to abolish the existence and role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), in violation of its obligations under the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions. In letters addressed to the Foreign Ministers of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, the UN Secretary-General, the current Presidents of the UN Security Council, and the UN General Assembly, OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha underlined UNRWA's vital role in providing basic services to Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and especially the Gaza Strip, given the tragic conditions it is witnessing. In these letters, the OIC Secretary-General called for pressure on Israel to stop its ongoing illegal actions against UNRWA. For its part, the Muslim World League (MWL) condemned in the strongest terms the crime of settlers storming the court yards of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the gaze and protection of the Israeli occupation government. In a MWL statement on Monday, the Organization of Muslim Scholars Secretary General, Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, denounced this crime, which represents a provocation to the feelings of Muslims around the world and a flagrant violation of all religious and humanitarian values and norms.
