Accra:Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a decree rescheduling the presidential and legislative elections to September 11, 2027. This decision revokes an earlier plan for legislative elections initially set for November 28, 2026.
According to Anadolu Agency, The decree calls for participation from Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip in simultaneous elections for both the presidency of the State of Palestine and the Palestinian Legislative Council. This information was reported by the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa.
The change in the election date follows a decision by the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), alongside consultations with Palestinian factions and political forces. These discussions resulted in a consensus that Israeli measures posed obstacles to holding the elections on the initially scheduled date. It was deemed necessary to establish suitable political, security, and field conditions to ensure the elections are free, fair, and inclusive.
