Petra Authority Launches Zoning Project to Regulate Urban Growth

Wadi Musa:The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) has initiated a zoning project covering four land basins in the Petra region. This project aims to regulate urban expansion while preserving the region's historical, archaeological, and environmental character.

According to Jordan News Agency, the project's launch is a significant move towards organizing urban growth in Wadi Musa. It aims to provide structured land parcels for residents and support sustainable planning and investment.

The project covers an area of approximately 10.5 square kilometers, distributed across four basins in Wadi Musa: Basin 18 (Al-Takharir) at roughly 2.1 square kilometers, Basin 8 (Al-Mudarraj) at 2.7 square kilometers, Basin 6 (Al-Mahzool) at 2.4 square kilometers, and Basin 4 (Al-Safaha) at 3.3 square kilometers.

PDTRA Board Chairman Adnan Al-Sawair explained that the initiative will help manage land use, curb unplanned expansion, and improve infrastructure and public services. It also aims to create a favorable environment for economic investment and includes plans for an organized industrial zone to foster local employment and economic activity.

The zoning project will enhance balanced development across Wadi Musa and increase land-use efficiency. It aims to ensure that new developments remain in harmony with Petra's historical and tourist status while balancing community needs, investment growth, and heritage preservation.

PDTRA remains committed to executing urban development projects that improve quality of life and support the local economy while safeguarding Petra's heritage for future generations.
