Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority Unveils Ambitious Plans for Sports and Cultural Tourism

Petra: Plans are underway to host sports and cultural tourism in the historic region of Petra, spearheaded by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA). Dr. Fares Breizat, Chairman of PDTRA, recently welcomed American tycoon Todd Boehly, CEO of Eldridge Industries and owner and chairman of Chelsea FC, along with his delegation, to the archaeological site.

According to Jordan News Agency, the delegation toured the region and experienced its rich local heritage. Dr. Breizat provided insights into Petra's historical significance as a world heritage site and highlighted its recognition as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. During the briefing, Breizat outlined PDTRA's strategic plans to revitalize and expand tourism through the development of cultural tourism experiences.

The PDTRA's vision is deeply rooted in the heritage of the Petra Bedouins, encompassing elements listed in the Intangible Cultural Heritage. New tourism experiences are being introduced, focusing on religious tourism and adventure tourism, including meditation services. These initiatives are designed to enhance the visitor experience and attract tourists with diverse interests.

Efforts are also underway to construct suitable infrastructure to host various sporting events, such as marathons, adventure sports, climbing, long trails, and four-wheel drive vehicle tours. These activities are expected to draw sports enthusiasts from around the globe, further bolstering Petra's appeal as a tourist destination.

Dr. Breizat highlighted the investment opportunities within Petra, particularly in high-quality tourist resorts aimed at the luxury tourism sector. These efforts are intended to attract travelers seeking unique cultural experiences in the ancient city.

The overarching goal of these initiatives is to reinforce Petra's standing as a global tourist destination while safeguarding the region's cultural and human heritage.
