Petra: The Treasury fa§ade in Jordan's ancient city was bathed in yellow and blue lights Tuesday evening, marking the launch of Jordan's campaign for the Third Global Disability Summit taking place in Berlin this April.
According to Jordan News Agency, the illumination represents a visual centerpiece of the national awareness initiative "Without Us It Doesn't Work," advocating for comprehensive inclusion of persons with disabilities across all sectors, including tourism and heritage sites.
"This iconic monument glowing in the campaign colors sends a powerful message about Jordan's commitment to accessibility and equal rights," said Fatima Hilalat, Commissioner for Sustainable Development. "It symbolizes our vision for a society where everyone participates fully, regardless of ability."
The lighting ceremony coincided with a landmark agreement between the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority and the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The partnership aims to transform the UNESCO World Heritage site into a fully accessible destination through adaptive technologies and infrastructure modifications.
Suleiman Sarayrah, Southern Region Director at the Higher Council, emphasized the practical implications: "We're reimagining the visitor experience to ensure everyone can connect meaningfully with this wonder of the ancient world."
