Prime Minister, Bisher Khasawneh, on Satuurday participated in the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), celebration of the Amman City Day in Dubai, which was held within the “Dubai 2020 Expo”, with the aim of showcasing GAM’s policies, strategies and plans, as well as its achievements and future visions through projects that serve the city’s needs, citizens, residents and investors.

Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh gave a presentation on main themes that GAM worked on within the projects of electronic transformation, public transport, investment and the development of the legislative system, in all GAM’s sectors.

During the event, attended by representatives of authorities, embassies and consulates of Arab and foreign countries, representatives of pavilions, companies and sectors specialized in the fields of smart cities, IT, transportation and investment, Shawarbeh indicated that GAM has investable assets of up to JD1 billion out of JD2.4 billion, which represents the value of the GAM’s assets.

He indicated that GAM has established an investment arm represented by the Amman Vision Investment and Development (AVID) company with the aim of enhancing revenues away from fees and taxes, and being a partner in economic development with needed projects by the city, the citizen and the investor.

Shawarbeh said that AVID projects vary between projects that have been economically feasible, others that are under ideation, and projects that are left to the investor to develop in a way that achieves the desired investment activity in the city.

He pointed out that GAM worked on several legislative themes to build a system that enables it to perform its tasks, most notably GAM Law No. (18) of 2021, which includes strategies for all GAM sectors, and the launch of a unified inspection system for economic establishments.

Shawarbeh talked about the electronic transformation project, which is the infrastructure for transforming Amman into a smart city, and about GAM’s achievements in developing and raising the efficiency of the public transport system by deploying buses that operate within specific routes and frequencies served by passenger stations and a tracking and monitoring system, in addition to the works accomplished by GAM for the infrastructure of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), where the first track has been operational, and the second track will be operational early next year.

He underlined that the cleanliness of Amman is one of GAM’s permanent tasks, which works to employ solid waste management through the project of converting waste into liquefied gas and converting it into energy, whereby a financial saving of 45 percent on GAM’s electricity bill is achieved.
