Baghdad: Prime Minister Jafar Hassan held a series of bilateral meetings on Saturday with his Lebanese and Spanish counterparts, as well as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the sidelines of the 34th Arab League Summit in the Iraqi capital. Hassan met with his Lebanese counterpart, Nawaf Salam, where they affirmed the profound fraternal relations between Jordan and Lebanon and expressed a mutual commitment to their enhancement.
According to Jordan News Agency, discussions focused on avenues to bolster cooperation, with an emphasis on the necessity of sustained coordination and consultation to advance collaborative efforts across various domains. Hassan reiterated Jordan's unwavering support for Lebanon's security, stability, and sovereignty, aimed at ensuring its progress, prosperity, and the fulfillment of its citizens' aspirations. In turn, Prime Minister Salam underscored Lebanon's dedication to strengthening bilateral ties and commended Jordan's pivotal role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in supporting Lebanon and broader Arab causes.
In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Hassan met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S¡nchez. Both sides acknowledged the deep-rooted friendship and cooperative ties between Jordan and the Kingdom of Spain. Hassan lauded Spain's proactive efforts concerning regional issues, particularly its endeavors to mobilize international support for an end to the war on Gaza and for the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. Such a solution, he emphasized, would ensure the Palestinian people regain their full legitimate rights on their national soil.
Hassan also held discussions with United Nations Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres, focusing on the latest developments in the region and the ongoing war in Gaza. During this meeting, both parties stressed the imperative of an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza, the guaranteed delivery of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of Gaza without the displacement of its population. Prime Minister Hassan commended Secretary-General Guterres for his dedicated efforts and principled stances aimed at achieving peace in the region and seeking political resolutions to global and regional crises.
