Amman: Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Wednesday opened a high-level Arab conference focused on implementing the declaration from the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2) held in Doha, Qatar. This event is part of the 45th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs.
According to Jordan News Agency, the conference was organized by the Arab League in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development. It gathered notable figures such as Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and ministers of social development from various Arab countries.
Minister of Social Development and Chair of the 45th session, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, addressed the conference, emphasizing that the social challenges facing Arab countries today are a test of their collective ability to build sustainable and resilient systems. She highlighted the need for strengthening Arab integration, activating cooperation, and exchanging expertise to achieve better management of resources and to harness the potential of youth.
Mustafa outlined Jordan's commitment to building a comprehensive development model, noting that the Kingdom has launched political, economic, and administrative modernization initiatives, alongside the National Social Protection Strategy 2025-2030. This strategy is supported by an action plan, specific budgets, and a defined timeframe.
Jordan has also developed advanced laws, regulations, and directives in line with international standards to strengthen social justice. These efforts have resulted in national strategies that aim to meet the needs of Jordanian citizens and enhance the protection and empowerment of vulnerable groups.
Furthering its humanitarian efforts, Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, continues to support resilience efforts in Gaza and Palestine. This support is facilitated through relief efforts and field initiatives led by the government, the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization, and the Jordan Armed Forces - Arab Army. These initiatives include land convoys, mobile medical teams, and field hospitals that have gained international recognition.
Arab League Secretary-General Aboul Gheit addressed the ongoing challenges in the Arab region, specifically highlighting the issues faced due to the Israeli occupation in Gaza. He noted that Palestinians are enduring harsh conditions and emphasized the importance of restoring normalcy to Gazan society. He reiterated the Arab League's commitment to supporting Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, and stressed the need for strengthening their resilience.
Aboul Gheit also referenced the Arab vision adopted at the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Baghdad, which outlines a strategic path for long-term social transformation in the region.
