Amman: Prime Minister Jafar Hassan detailed ambitious plans to boost Jordan's tourism and technology sectors in his address to Parliament, highlighting these sectors as key drivers of economic growth and job creation. According to Jordan News Agency, in the tourism sector, Hassan announced plans to increase the industry's contribution to GDP from 13.3% to 15% by 2029. The government aims to attract 5.5 million tourists next year, targeting tourism revenues of 5.5 billion dinars. New development projects include an eco-resort in Jerash scheduled for completion in 2026, spanning 210 dunums with environmentally-friendly facilities and family amenities. Additional projects include a new hotel in Umm Qais and the development of the Mu'tah Battle Site in Southern Mazar. The government will continue support programs for regular, low-cost, and charter flights throughout the next year, while developing and diversifying tourism products with a focus on medical tourism and new market penetration. Regarding the techn ology sector, Hassan outlined plans to boost annual growth to 13%, aiming to increase its GDP contribution from 2.9% to 4.7% within five years. The government has implemented a ten-year income tax exemption on IT service exports and reduced local service income tax to 5% from 20% to enhance competitiveness. The Prime Minister announced support for 250 startups over the next five years. The Industrial Support Fund will assist over 200 industrial companies in the next two years to enhance competitiveness and increase local value addition. Additionally, export support will be provided to more than 100 industrial companies to expand their market reach and strengthen their position in traditional markets. The initiatives reflect the government's commitment to economic diversification and sector-specific development, building on King Abdullah II's early vision for technology sector advancement and Jordan's established regional leadership in this field.
