Amman: The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Tuesday revealed the findings of an investigation into a social media video where a man claimed he was assaulted by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Department during a search operation.
According to Jordan News Agency, the PSD spokesperson announced that the police prosecutor had finished the investigation after analyzing body-worn camera footage that captured the incident from its beginning. The investigation also involved testimony from three civilian witnesses, who were neighbors of the complainant and present during the search. Both the footage and the witness statements verified that the man was not subjected to any form of misconduct, including beating or assault, during the operation.
The spokesperson further noted that the man was examined by a forensic medical expert. The forensic report determined that the injuries visible on his body were similar in appearance and length, were incurred simultaneously, and were likely self-inflicted or deliberately caused by another individual.
The police prosecutor concluded that the allegation of assault was fabricated, based on the evidence, witness accounts, and forensic evaluations. The investigation into the complainant's actions is still ongoing.
