Amman: Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdel Moneim Al Odat, Monday received Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al Yamahi and stressed the importance of cementing joint Arab action through national parliaments. He said Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, attached great importance to parliamentary diplomacy and its vital role in defending Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.
According to Jordan News Agency, the minister emphasized that Jordan has made key strides in enhancing parliamentary work, making the parliament a true representative of all segments of society that promotes participation in the decision-making process and formulates policies. Al Odat highlighted the efforts of the Royal Committee for Modernizing the Political System, formed at the beginning of the second centennial of the Jordanian state, which aims to bolster the Kingdom's democratic model and create a partisan parliament based on programmatic party work that meets citizens' needs and aspirations.
For his part, Al Yamahi praised Jordanian diplomacy, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in defending Arab issues, with a particular focus on the Palestinian cause. He affirmed the Arab Parliament's cooperation with Jordan to enhance joint Arab parliamentary dialogue on various issues and related matters. Al Yamahi also expressed support for the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
