Egypt's president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced on Wednesday 14/8/2024 that Egypt will assume the chairmanship of the African Union's (AU) Peace and Security Council in October, with the goal of maintaining security and stability across all African nations. During a joint press conference with his Somali counterpart, Sisi also mentioned that this year the peacekeeping mission in Somalia will be renewed, and Egypt will participate in it, noting that the final decision remains with the host country.
