Amman: HRH Prince El Hassan Bin Talal, chairman of the Arab Thought Forum, made a notable visit to the German-Jordanian University (GJU), where he was warmly received by University Vice President Iyas Khader, Assistant Vice President Abdel Hakim Arabiat, Dean of the School of Architecture and Built Environment Omaimah Al-Arja, Mohammad Yaghan, head of the University's Heritage Building Restoration Committee, along with several faculty members and students.
According to Jordan News Agency, Prince El Hassan was briefed on the university's projects and programs aimed at studying and documenting Jordanian architectural heritage. During his visit, he emphasized the importance of integrating academic, practical, and community aspects to ensure that theoretical knowledge is effectively applied to preserve architectural and national identity.
Prince El Hassan remarked on the dynamic nature of Jordanian heritage, highlighting its reflection of the country's historical depth. He stated, "Our true treasures lie in our awareness that our history must remain untouched, and preserving this legacy is preserving our dignity and shared memory."
In his recommendations, Prince El Hassan advocated for strengthened collaboration among the university, state institutions, and cultural and heritage entities. He urged for coordinated efforts to document and showcase Jordanian architectural heritage in a manner that aligns with national interests.
Dean Omaimah Al-Arja pointed out that the faculty's heritage location offers students an educational experience that connects the authenticity of place with modernity. She emphasized that heritage preservation involves not only restoration but also building the future based on identity and national memory.
Vice President Khader highlighted the university's vision to make applied education a way of life by creating real partnerships with the industrial sector to bridge theory and practice. He noted that the preparation of students today focuses on empowering them to lead future transformations with innovation and leadership.
Concluding his visit, HRH Prince El Hassan reiterated the importance of intergenerational and institutional dialogue in reviving Jordanian cultural heritage. He called for fostering national awareness that regards heritage as a platform for dialogue and creativity, serving as a foundation for a future where Jordanians collectively value their civilizational identity.
