Princess Basma Bint Talal Celebrates 70 Years of YWCA Jordan Achievements

Amman: Her Royal Highness Princess Basma bint Talal on Wednesday attended the 70th anniversary celebration of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Jordan.

According to Jordan News Agency, Her Royal Highness praised YWCA's achievements throughout its history, highlighting its role in serving the community, empowering women, supporting youth, and promoting values of benevolence and citizenship. The ceremony saw the presence of Minister of Social Development Wafaa Bani Mustafa, where Princess Basma emphasized YWCA's sustained vision and belief in building nations by enhancing the presence of women in society.

Her Royal Highness remarked that the YWCA's journey mirrors Jordan's story, promoting coexistence and integration among all social segments. She expressed hope that the coming years will bring further accomplishments, ensuring that YWCA remains a beacon of benevolence and a symbol of hope in Jordan.

The head of YWCA, Hania Qaqish, stated that the association carries a humanitarian and national mission, believing in women's roles as partners in development and nation-building. She noted that the celebration honors every woman who contributed to the association's legacy.

Qaqish pointed out that under King Abdullah II's leadership, Jordan has been a land of pluralism and respect, aligning with YWCA's founding mission. She emphasized that YWCA is rooted in Jordan's values, representing volunteer work and benevolence, and acknowledged the achievements impacting women's lives through economic empowerment and training programs.

The ceremony included folkloric and national performances by the scout troop of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church/Marka and students of the National Orthodox School/Ashrafieh. Princess Basma honored YWCA members, pioneers, and supporters of the scholarship program, along with top female students who benefited from its services.
