Amman:Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), presided over the university's 32nd graduation ceremony. During the event, PSUT alumnus Amjad Masad, founder and CEO of Replit, received an honorary doctorate as decided by the university's Council of Deans, acknowledging his contributions to technology and entrepreneurship.
According to Jordan News Agency, Masad, who graduated from PSUT's Computer Science program in 2010, has built a successful career by founding Replit, a prominent technology company valued at approximately $9 billion. His journey from a university graduate to a leader in the global technology sector exemplifies the integration of Jordanian talent and entrepreneurial spirit.
In her speech, Princess Sumaya encouraged graduates to pursue their ambitions without limits, emphasizing the importance of courage and knowledge in shaping the future. She highlighted the university's mission to anticipate future challenges and leverage science and technology for Jordan's development.
Princess Sumaya also spoke about the historical role of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), the parent institution of PSUT, which has been a pioneer in advancing science and technology in Jordan since its establishment in 1970. She stressed that building a nation involves nurturing the intellectual capabilities of its people and integrating technology and management to create sustainable value.
University President Prof. Wajdan Abu Elhaija outlined recent achievements at PSUT, including the King Talal School of Business Technology obtaining EQUIS accreditation, the launch of a Smart Knowledge System incorporating artificial intelligence, and the establishment of Defendexe, a cybersecurity spin-off company. The university has also developed VerifyX, a blockchain-based digital signature system, and opened a Security Operations Centre (SOC) Lab in collaboration with Jordan Kuwait Bank.
The ceremony concluded with a tribute to former minister Marwan Juma for his long-standing service to the university, and the recognition of doctoral graduates Ramah Bani Younes and Yasmeen Al Salman in computer science. Academic excellence awards were given to several students, including Sadeen Marei, Celine Karajeh, and Dania Al-Louzi. The event was attended by various dignitaries and representatives from the education, business, and technology sectors.
