Shobak: Secretary-General of the Water Authority Wael Duwairi and Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Leslie Reed inaugurated a project to rehabilitate the Najl pumping station and the water distribution network in Shobak. The initiative aims to enhance water supply and reduce water loss in the Shobak District of Ma'an Governorate. According to Jordan News Agency, Duwairi stated that the project aligns with national efforts to minimize water loss across the Kingdom. It is part of the strategic water sector plan for 2023-2040 and is funded by USAID at a cost of $4.5 million. The project involves upgrading the Najl pumping station, implementing a SCADA system, constructing a 1,000-cubic-meter tank, and rehabilitating the water distribution network with 30 kilometers of new pipeline. This includes main and carrier lines and 15 residential connections, benefiting over 8,400 residents in Shobak District. Duwairi emphasized that the project will help reduce technical and administrative water loss, modernize monitoring systems, and strengthen the efficiency of water distribution. By addressing network water loss and enhancing the monitoring and protection of water sources, it is projected to save approximately 77,000 cubic meters of water annually. Reed highlighted USAID's commitment to providing technical and technological support to improve citizens' access to water across the Kingdom. The project aims to reduce water loss, upgrade network infrastructure, and advance water resource management, ultimately enhancing water security in Jordan.
