Amman: Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abuelsamen, met on Sunday with the Chairman of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) Ziad Sa'aideh, and the general managers of Jordan's electricity companies.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting discussed the mechanism of joint cooperation to implement maintenance and sustainability of the ministry-affiliated road lighting projects and find solutions to manage power lines and ensure their continued operation.

Abuelsamen praised the cooperation that successfully maintained lighting systems on the highways of Queen Alia International Airport and the Dead Sea, commending the efforts of the EMRC's workers, electricity companies, and ministry to carry out this initiative.

Abuelsamen said the ministry is continuing to maintain the lamp network on Jordan's roads, based on the priority schedule set for this goal. Announcing future projects, he said the coming period will witness work on maintaining lighting networks of Amman Development Corridor and Amman-Jerash-Irbid Highway.

Additionally, he noted the ministry is working to secure the equipment, mainly lighting poles, units, and electrical panels, to carry out this project. Abuelsamen stressed the need to cooperate with Jordan's security agencies to provide protection for lighting fixtures, which may often be tampered with and looted, adding that the majority of lighting network malfunctions were due to such attacks.

The minister stated cooperation among relevant authorities will contribute to improving the service provided to citizens and ensuring sustainable development goals. Meanwhile, Sa'aideh expressed the EMRC's support for this initiative, highlighting the importance of partnerships between the kingdom's public and private sectors to achieve the desired goals.

Sa'aideh called for strengthening cooperation among all stakeholders to achieve an effort that reflects a strategy and defines priorities, powers, and responsibilities of each relevant entity.
