Amman: Director of Public Security Directorate (PSD), Maj. Gen. Dr. Obeidallah Maaytah, attended the directorate's celebration marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event underscored the critical role of youth in combating drug-related issues, aligning with this year's theme, "With Efforts of Youth, We Fight Drugs."
According to Jordan News Agency, Maaytah highlighted that the 2025 theme reflects the PSD's vision of engaging youth as the primary defense against drug challenges that impact societies. He emphasized the influence of Royal directives as a driving force behind the PSD's prevention and awareness programs, which prioritize youth in national efforts to safeguard society.
Maaytah mentioned that the National Drug Awareness Strategy (2024-2026) is being implemented efficiently with active youth involvement, showcasing comprehensive efforts at all levels. Dr. Amjad Al-A'darbeh, Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Jordan, commended the close cooperation with the PSD, recognizing joint efforts to enhance prevention and treatment, and the utilization of youth energy in combating drugs through innovative community initiatives.
The event also included specialized dialogue sessions with experts discussing the legal, social, religious, and awareness-raising aspects of the drug issue. Concluding the ceremony, Maaytah honored winners of the awareness competition organized by the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), praising their contributions in spreading awareness and protecting society.
