Public Works, Interior Ministers Review Master Plan for Jaber Border Crossing Development

Amman: Minister of Public Works and Housing Maher Abul Samen and Minister of Interior Mazen Farraya discussed on Sunday the latest developments in the master plan studies for the redevelopment of the Jaber border crossing. The initiative aims to create a comprehensive vision to modernize border crossings and meet Jordan's needs for decades to come.

According to Jordan News Agency, during a meeting at the Ministry of Public Works, attended by representatives from all government and security agencies operating border crossings, as well as officials from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the ministers underscored the need to develop border facilities in line with global standards. The plan prioritizes security and customs efficiency while facilitating freight and passenger movement and considering future population growth in Jordan and neighboring countries.

Participants reviewed the master plan and discussed areas of agreement and contention regarding phase one designs, traffic flow routes, building locations, inspection points, implementation phases, estimated costs, and prioritization based on budget availability. The project aims to ensure uninterrupted operations at the border crossing during construction without disrupting cargo and passenger movement.

The ministers stressed the importance of upgrading all border crossings to reflect Jordan's status and reputation while ensuring the highest service standards for visitors, trade, and transit movement through the country.
