Public Works Minister Highlights Strategic Coordination Amid Severe Weather Conditions

Amman: Minister of Public Works and Housing Maher Abu Al-Samen emphasized the critical need for enhanced coordination with relevant official bodies and concerned agencies to effectively address the severe weather conditions impacting the Kingdom.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Minister, during an inspection visit to the Ministry's main operations room, praised the high performance levels of the Ministry's teams and staff amidst the challenging weather linked to the ongoing low-pressure system. The visit was also attended by Secretary General for Technical Affairs Jamal Qutaishat.

Abu Al-Samen highlighted that early preparedness, logistical readiness, and continuous training programs have been pivotal in demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency plan for the current winter season. He noted that the Ministry has been operating under a medium-level emergency plan during the recent weather system. Field teams and machinery have been strategically deployed across the Kingdom, tailored to the specific needs of each governorate and the volume of incidents reported.

The Minister explained that Ministry personnel have responded to numerous reports from citizens, primarily concerning rising water levels and the accumulation of soil and rocks on various roads. He mentioned that preparations for the rainy season began at the end of the previous season, focusing on identifying and addressing recurring hotspots during the summer months.

Furthermore, the Ministry conducted extensive cleaning of flood channels and valleys and equipped its directorates with the necessary tools and supplies to manage weather-related challenges. In this effort, 110 field teams were mobilized, supported by 135 government-owned vehicles and 191 vehicles provided by private-sector partners.
