Amman: The Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs (RCJA) has condemned the recent directive issued by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, which orders the closure of the Jerusalem Fund and Endowment by the occupation authorities.
According to Jordan News Agency, RCJA Secretary-General Abdullah Kanaan stated that the Jerusalem endowment functions as an independent, charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the residents of the holy city. Its mission focuses on supporting economic empowerment and promoting sustainable development for charitable organizations within the city.
Kanaan emphasized that these aggressive measures by Israel will not deter the resilient Palestinian people, who he described as the rightful owners of the land. He affirmed that Jordan, under its leadership and as the Hashemite Custodian of Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, remains steadfast in its support for the people of Jerusalem, its sacred sites, and the humanitarian and charitable institutions in both Jerusalem and Palestine.
He further criticized the international community's silence, suggesting that it has emboldened Israel to believe its plans surpass international legitimacy and the historical and legal rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Kanaan highlighted that the lack of accountability for Israel's ongoing actions against the Palestinian people has led the nation to claim false victories, appeasing colonizers while ignoring the rights of Palestinians to their land, holy sites, and community institutions protected by international law.
Additionally, Kanaan pointed out that the right-wing Israeli government appears to be attempting to divert attention from its actions in the Gaza Strip. He also mentioned Israeli efforts to close UNRWA headquarters and schools in Jerusalem as part of these broader moves.
